¿Como te sientes al ser la primera Miss Puerto Rico América luego de 48 años? (How do you feel being the first
Miss Puerto Rico America after 48 years?)
¡Feliz! La realidad es que es una mezcla de emociones, porque es una gran responsabilidad llevar un titulo tan importante
luego de tantos años, así que aparte de la emoción, la responsabilidad y el trabajo que me espera, tengo muchas ansias para
estar en Las Vegas.
(Happy! The truth is, it's a mixture of emotions because it's a big responsibility to carry a title
so important after so many years. Thus, apart from the emotions, the responsibility and the work that awaits me, I am very
anxious about being in Las Vegas.)
Sabemos que has estado muy ocupada cumpliendo compromisos con la Organización de Miss América y eso conlleva mucho trabajo
y sacrificio. ¿Qué te motivó a luchar por la corona de Miss Puerto Rico América? (We know that you have been very busy
fulfilling duties with the Miss America Organization and that requires much work and sacrifice. What motivated you to
fight for the Miss Puerto Rico America crown?)
Cada experiencia de vida es un reto de aprendizaje para mí. La oportunidad de luchar para representar a tu país, hacer historia
luego de 48 años, el obtener becas de estudio, promover tu plataforma y demostrar tu potencial y talento ante millones en
América fue una gran motivación y aun lo sigue siendo.
(Every experience in life is a challenge for me to learn. The opportunity
to fight to represent your country, to make history after 48 years, to get scholarship, to promote your platform and to
demonstrate your potential and talent before millions of Americans was a big motivation and continues to be so.)
¿Que tipo de entrenamiento estás llevando a cabo rumbo al certamen Miss América 2010 en Las Vegas?
(How are you preparing for the Miss America 2010 competition in Las Vegas?)
Estamos culminando de delinear el plan de trabajo pero es uno bien amplio, expresión oral en ingles, entrenamiento
físico con Edwin Benítez, clases de canto con José Ramón, fogueos en los estados de California y Texas, fittings en
Miami y otros. Lo más que vamos a estar trabajando es mi plataforma, la cual ya comencé a impulsar en mí querido
pueblo de Las Piedras, promoviendo y participando de actividades deportivas y recreativas en la comunidad.
(We are almost done drawing up the work plan, but it's something broad. It includes oral expression in English, fitness
training with Edwin Benítez, singing lessons with José Ramón, trips to California and Texas, fittings in Miami and others.
We'll be focusing mostly on my platform which I have already started promoting in my beloved town of Las Piedras, promoting and
sharing in athletic and recreative activities in the community.)
¿Qué diferencia a Miss América de otros certámenes de belleza? (What difference does Miss America have compared to other
beauty pageants?)
Miss América es una programa de becas, el más grande en proveer becas a jóvenes en el mundo. A diferencia de la mayoría
de los certámenes que nosotros los boricuas estamos acostumbrados, aquí se evalúa el talento y tanto el compromiso
comunitario como el potencial de ser portavoz tienen mucho peso. Incluso el formato del certamen es sumamente distinto,
las candidatas se dividen en tres grupos y se hacen tres preliminares. Igualmente la Organización de Miss América es
una sumamente seria y organizada y ha logrado que un gran porciento de sus candidatas y reinas hoy día tengan
una carrera solida.
(Miss America is a scholarship program, the biggest provider of scholarship to young women in the world.
Compared to the most pageants that we Puerto Ricans are used to, Miss America values talent, and community involvement as
well as being a spokesperson carry a lot of weight. Also, the Miss America Organization is a very serious and organized
one, and a high percentage of its candidates and titleholders have solid careers these days.)
¿Cómo las artes han influenciado tu vida y la de tu familia? (How have the arts influenced your life and that of your
family?)
A mi madre siempre le ha gustado la literatura, la música y la actuación y a mi hermano y a mi padre le
apasionan la música, criándome en un ambiente lleno de salsa, congas y baile. Desde nena siempre estuve en grupos
de bailes y yo misma creé unos, siempre me encantó el cine y la actuación y me fui desarrollando en esas áreas al
punto que hoy forman parte de mis metas profesionales y la motivación de mi plataforma. Todos en casa somos
apasionados de las artes, la música y los deportes y eso ha estimulado mucho la creatividad y la sensibilidad
en nosotros, sobre todo la unión familiar. Por ejemplo, para la competencia de talento mi padre creó la música
con sus congas, mi hermano en su estudio lo grabó y le hizo los arreglos musicales mientras que mi madre los dirigía.
(My mother has always liked literature, music and acting, and my brother and my father love music. My parents raised
me in an environment full of salsa, congas and dance. Since I was a little girl, I was always in dance groups and
I even created some. I always liked cinema and acting and I developed myself in those areas to the point that they
have now become part of my professional goals and the motivation of my platform. Everyone in my house loves the arts,
music and sports and that stimulated a lot creativity and sensibility in us. For example, for the talent competition,
my father created music with his congas, my brother recorded it in his studio and he made
the musical arrangement while my mother directed them.)
¿Que mensaje tiene Mimi para todo su país? (What message does Mimi have for her country?)
Los quiero y los amo mucho y espero seguir contando con el amor y el apoyo de ustedes como siempre. Estén muy
pendientes a todos los pasos de Puerto Rico en la próxima edición número 89 de Miss America, recuerden votar por
Puerto Rico, ya que 4 candidatas entrarán por el voto del público. Sobre todo espero que muchos puedan darse cita
en Planet Hollywood en Las Vegas el 30 de enero o sintonicen ese momento histórico a las 8:00 PM por TLC. ¡Un beso!

edition of Miss America, remember to vote for Puerto Rico because four candidates will enter by public vote.
