By David Natanawan for Critical Beauty
Please tell us something about yourself, your full name, age, height, vital stats, where you came from, educational
information, your interests and hobbies and other important facts about yourself.
My name is a Suada Saliu. I was born on March 3, 1987. Currently, I live in the capital city of Tirana were I'm studying
Business Administration at the Economic University of Tirana. I was born and raised in Lezha, a small town
but yet beautiful and peaceful. My hobbies are swimming, dancing, reading. I also enjoy sports. At the moment,
I'm single. I'm a very sensitive type, very sociable. I can adapt to any situation quickly. My biggest
desire would be to finish university with good grades and present myself well for my county in the Miss Earth 2009.
Who influenced you to join your country’s national pageant prior to winning the title to represent your country at Miss Earth?
My desire to find my true colors and the love that I have for mother earth.
How were you chosen to represent you country and what preparations have you done for the Miss Earth 2009
competition?
I was chosen by the judges and by public voting in the Miss Earth Albania competition. The preparations
I have done for Miss Earth 2009 include working out and eating right, improving my interview skills, and
developing my environmental cause.
If you could choose among the four elements: earth, air, water or fire, what would you like to be and why?
It think that all four elements are important in that none of them would function without the other.
Each of one has the good and the bad in them but none of us would even exist without the other. It's very hard
to make a choice between these four elemetns as they are all important for us to survive. though I would chose water.
I find my true self in water, its color gives me happiness and joy, and hope for a better life.
What is your fashion sense and style? Who is your style icon and why?
Most of the time, I am at the university so my day to day wear would be comfortable but fashionable.
I'll dress up for the special occasions. I don't really have a style icon but I try to have one of my own.
If you are an animal, what would you be and why would you like to be that animal?
I would want to be a leopard because I love its elegance, movement and physical strength.
What environmental platform do you want to pursue during the Miss Earth 2009 pageant and how would you help to
pursue this platform?
I want to show the world how important it is to keep our nature alive, to stop carbon emissions and to
save the earth before it is too late. I would talk with government leaders and politicans and convince them
to work with me in implementing my environmental projects.

Are you a member of any environmental organization or animal rights protection in your country?
Not yet. But when I am back from the Philippines, I want to join the environmental group Mjedisi Sot
supported by REC Albania, for the only reason that they promote green Albania and they are planting trees
in all major cities of the country.
Do you have any idea about the host country, Philippines? What are your impressions about the country? And what do you know about
the Finals Night venue, the island of Boracay?
It's my fist time that I am visiting the Phlippines. I know that there are lots of islands and most
fish that are sold all over the world for aquariums come from the Philippines. I believe that it's going be a
beautiful experience for me.
Have you heard about the recent disaster brought by typhoons Ondoy (Ketsana) and Pepeng (Parma) in the Philippines?
How do you feel about the tragedy that befell some part of the Philippines due to these typhoons?
Somtimes nature is rebellious and harsh towards human beings. The devastation caused by the typhoons in the Philippines
really touched me in a way that I can't really explain. But it's this kind of events that are happening in
our world that make us come together and do something about it.
With the recent disaster that happened in the Philippines and other parts of the world, do you think Miss Earth pageant is still
relevant in promoting environmental
awareness all over the world?
For me, it is the best beauty pageant in the world, that promotes the best enviromental ideas for the earth,
and I wish that the pageant organizers will have more support from the politicians to continue producing Miss Earth
for a long time.
What do you think is the biggest environmental problem that our planet Earth is experiencing today? And how would you do
your share to prevent this problem?
The biggest problem today is global warming. I would say that leaders of our countries could tackle
this problem by coming together and invest more in finding solutions. And people's negligence towards nature -
they cut trees and don't replace them! That's another problem we should tackle.
If you win the Miss Earth title, how would you use your title to promote environmental awareness all over the world?
I would put all my energy in getting the message out there to the right people who have the power in preserving
what mother earth gave us and do more for it like plant more trees and stop deforestation all over the world.
Which of the two would you choose and why? Beautiful or Smart.
Smart.
City or countryside?
Countryside. The village with its mesmerizing green fields is a place where you can find peace and natural beauty
Money or fame?
Fame, because money comes and goes but fame remains.
Hot or Cold?
Cold, because mother earth is suffering from global warming.
Blind or Mute
Mute. It's better to be deaf than blind and not see the beauty of nature.
Past or Future?
Future. We should always think of the future but without forgetting the past.
Boyfriend or beauty pageant crown?
Boyfriend. Because he represents love and family and for me these are two important things.
Lastly, what is your message to all the people reading this interview?
To love and cherish nature; by doing that, we will love and cherish ourselves.
