MEETING OLD AND NEW FACES

LAST WEEKEND (Aug. 2-5), I went to New York City to reunite with Héctor Joaquín and to meet - for the first time - with Michelle Malcolm, the president of the Miss Bahamas Organization, and with Tinnyse Johnson, the new Miss Bahamas World. Tinnyse met with renowned photographer Fadil Berisha for a photoshoot at his new studio, and Héctor and I presented Fadil with CB's Best National Director award for Miss Universe 2008. Fadil was very happy to have received the award. I told him that he deserves the award for having sent two fabulous and interesting-looking delegates (Kosovo and Albania) to the 2008 pageant.

It was exciting to have met Michelle Malcolm for the first time since we started chatting online three years ago! Michelle is one classy, warm, intelligent and charming woman. She really takes good care of Tinnyse and wants nothing but the best for her! Many national directors should imitate Michelle's style of directorship that has elevated Bahamian pageantry into the next level.

Meeting Tinnyse was awesome! She is one beautiful, sweet, articulate and funny young woman! Everywhere she went, people would stare or gawk at her! Tourists would ask to have their photos taken with her, from below the streets to the top of the Rockefeller Center! Tinnyse will surely make waves in the Ukraine!

And of course, I was very happy to see Héctor Joaquín for the first time since he visited me in Boston four years ago. I am delighted that Michelle's organization has contracted Héctor again to train and coach the new Miss Bahamas World!

It's hard to define Tinnyse's beauty. In this photo, she reminds me of actress Uma Thurmann.
And in some angles, she could pass up as Tyra Banks's younger sister!

Could she be the next Miss World? We hope so!

Tinnyse strikes a pose while her pageant coach Héctor Joaquín checks to make sure her gown is perfect!

This photo was taken on Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center). In the background,
you can see the world-famous Empire State Building, once the world's tallest building.
Note Tinnyse's cute summer dress that Michelle had picked for her from a street fair.

Fadil placed his precious CB Best National Director award in the center of this shelf,
between a humble statue of Mother Teresa and "not-so-important" trophies! Just kidding, Fadil! LOL!
