Beauty In All Creatures

Meatless Beauty

I'M NOT ONLY a beauty pageant fan, but I am also an ardent animal welfare activist and promoter of plant-based nutrition (veganism). I believe that true beauty starts with a kind heart, and that kindness should be extended to all animals. In this day and age when there are so many healthier and more affordable non-animal alternatives, it is no longer necessary to slaughter billions of helpless creatures for their meat. Sadly, in America where I live (and also in most industrialized nations of the world), the so-called farm animals (cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, sheep) are no longer treated as farm animals but mere factory animals - crammed in unlivable cages, deprived of proper food and medical attention, mistreated, beaten, tortured and finally gruesomely killed. Imagine your own pet experiencing the same fate.

If we wish to live in a better, healthier and happier planet, we need to stop for a moment and focus on the tremendous suffering that we have inflicted upon animals, as well as on our horrific acts towards polluting our environment. We need to constantly ask ourselves, "What can I do to save Earth and diminish the suffering of her beautiful creatures?" You can begin by stop eating meat like I did! The less people eat meat, the less animals are killed. And the less animals are killed, there will be less suffering in the world. Make yourself more beautiful by eliminating meat in your diet! - Rafa Delfin, Director of Critical Beauty

Great quotes by beautiful people

"Nothing's changed my life more. I feel better about myself as a person, being conscious and responsible for my actions and I lost weight and my skin cleared up and I got bright eyes and I just became stronger and healthier and happier. Can't think of anything better in the world to be but be vegan." Alica Silverstone

"There is no fundamental difference between man and the higher animals in their mental faculties... The lower animals, like man, manifestly feel pleasure and pain, happiness, and misery."  - Charles Darwin

"If Americans were to reduce their meat consumption by only 10 per cent for one year, it would free at least 12 millions tons of grain for human consumption - or enough to feed 60 million people... Indeed, if Americans were to stop eating grain-fed beef altogether the grain thus released would be enough to feed all the 600 million people in India."" - Peter Singer, author of Animal Liberation

"Killing animals for sport, for pleasure, for adventure, and for hides and furs is a phenomena which is at once disgusting and distressing. There is no justification in indulging is such acts of brutality." -
The XLV Dalai Lama

"There were no slaughterhouses in the Garden of Eden." -Unknown

"When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy."- Ingrid Newkirk, National Director of PETA

"We consume the carcasses of creatures of like appetites, passions and organs with our own, and fill the slaughterhouses daily with screams of pain and fear." - Robert Louis Stevenson

"Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace." - Albert Schweitzer , French philosopher, physician, and musician (Nobel 1952)

"For if animals are God's creatures, we have no absolute rights over them, only the duty to look after them as God would look after them. To stand with Jesus is to reject our view of ourselves as gods and lords of creation. We are to honor life for the sake of the Lord of life."  - Rev. Dr. Andrew Linzey, from Animal Gospel

"In fact, if one person is unkind to an animal it is considered to be cruelty, but where a lot of people are unkind to animals, especially in the name of commerce, the cruelty is condoned and, once large sums of money are at stake, will be defended to the last by otherwise intelligent people." - Ruth Harrison, author of  "Animal Machines"

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Gandhi

"As long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap the joy of love." - Pythagoras

"Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission--to be of service to them whenever they require it... If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." - St. Francis of Assisi

"He who does not value life does not deserve it." - Leonardo da Vinci

"I do not want to make my stomach a graveyard of dead animals."George Bernard Shaw

"The Utopians feel that slaughtering our fellow creatures gradually destroys the sense of compassion, which is the finest sentiment of which our human nature is capable." - Thomas More (1478-1535)

"Killing an animal to make a coat is a sin. It wasn't meant to be and we have no right to do it. A woman gains status when she refuses to see anything killed to be put on her back. Then she's truly beautiful!"Doris Day

"I am a vegan now, and it was a conscious decision. I studied a lot about African culture and health and the best way to take care of the body. I really wanted to be healthy. I found out a lot about the body and what [drugs] they put in meat. My taste buds started changing, and I didn't crave [meat and dairy products] anymore." - Brandy

"If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That?s the single most important thing you could do. It?s staggering when you think about it. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty." Sir Paul McCartney

"The meat industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars lying to the public about their product. But no amount of false propaganda can sanitize meat. The facts are absolutely clear: Eating meat is bad for human health, catastrophic for the environment, and a living nightmare for animals."
- Chrissie Hynde

"I try to stick to a vegan diet heavy on fruit, vegetables, tofu, and other soy products."
- Clint Eastwood

"There were no slaughterhouses in the Garden of Eden." - Unknown

"Intellectually, human beings and animals may be different, but it's pretty obvious that animals have a rich emotional life and that they feel joy and pain. It's easy to forget the connection between a hamburger and the cow it came from. But I forced myself to acknowledge the fact that every time I ate a hamburger, a cow had ceased to breathe and moo and walk around." - Moby

"I saw a semitruck of chickens drive by one day when we were on the road, and it had really decrepit-looking chickens, and I felt so sorry for them. I was like, ?Man, I can't eat chicken after seeing that.' It's been about three months. I love animals, and sometimes I feel like a hypocrite eating chicken or beef, because I know I wouldn't be able to kill one myself. If I was looking at a cow and I had a gun, I don't think I'd actually be able to shoot it." - Jack Johnson

"I think there's something odd about eating another living anything." - Shania Twain

"I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it."

- Abraham Lincoln

"The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creatures that cannot." - Mark Twain

"I had bought two male chimps from a primate colony in Holland. They lived next to each other in separate cages for several months before I used one as a [heart] donor. When we put him to sleep in his cage in preparation for the operation, he chattered and cried incessantly. We attached no significance to this, but it must have made a great impression on his companion, for when we removed the body to the operating room, the other chimp wept bitterly and was inconsolable for days. The incident made a deep impression on me. I vowed never again to experiment with such sensitive creatures." - Christian Barnard, surgeon

I'd like to see animals removed from the entertainment business. Chimpanzees and apes won't perform unless you beat them. Circuses keep elephants in chains 90 percent of the time. Elephants need freedom of movement. In circuses, they live in cramped quarters, which is not the life intended for them by nature. Some are beaten daily, forced to do ridiculous tricks and robbed of every shred of dignity." - Bob Barker

"If you could feel or see the suffering you wouldn't think twice. Give back life. Don't eat meat."
- Kim Basinger

"A vegetarian is a person who won't eat anything that can have children." - David Brenner

"I just could not stand the idea of eating meat - I really do think that it has made me calmer... People's general awareness is getting much better, even down to buying a pint of milk: the fact that the calves are actually killed so that the milk doesn't go to them but to us cannot really be right, and if you have seen a cow in a state of extreme distress because it cannot understand why its calf isn't by, it can make you think a lot." - Kate Bush

"I think it's really disgusting that designers use fur, and it's disgusting that people wear fur. It has to stop. It's so unnecessary in today's world, with the technology we have. I'm wearing fabulous "ultrasuede" tonight. This is totally the look of leather. There's a way to get it without death involved. We should be part of the solution, not part of the problem." - Marc Bouwer, fashion designer

"Some people are still going to want to eat meat... we do agree though that vegetarianism is a healthier diet." - David Stroud of the American Meat Institute

"Chickens, cows, pigs, and fish may not be as cute or cuddly as puppies or kittens, but they have the same capacity for suffering. If farmers did to dogs and cats what they do to animals they're raising for food, they could be prosecuted for animal abuse and locked up. What people need to understand is that if they're eating animals, they are promoting cruelty to animals."Pamela Anderson

"Animal rights is a part of my everyday life. When you live by example, you create a certain level of awareness. Friends of mine - people I have never discussed animal rights or vegetarianism with - are adopting vegetarian habits because they see it." - Joaquin Phoenix

"I have reached zero tolerance for the cruelty against our animal brothers. If we are to nuture our culture, let's begin with the animals who have been nothing but our beasts of burden for so long." - Riki Rockett

"Compassion is the foundation of everything positive, everything good. If you carry the power of compassion to the marketplace and the dinner table, you can make your life really count."
- Rue McClanahan

"I really wanted to get in shape because I have a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure and things of that nature. I felt like it was necessary for me to combat those issues at a young age before it became a bigger issue. I went to this place called Duke Diet & Fitness Center for a month and learned how to change my eating habits. Two weeks after leaving there I turned to a vegetarian diet. It's been wonderful." - Ruben Studdard, Winner of "Americal Idol," Season 2

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." - Albert Einstein
