Getting to Know Mr. Denmark Manhunt International 2012, Alexander Bach
ALEXANDER BACH was selected by the Miss & Mister of Denmark Organization as Denmark's representative to Manhunt International 2012 competition scheduled to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from November 1 to 11, 2012. Critical Beauty is grateful to Alexander and to his national director, Lisa Lents, for allowing this e-mail interview.
How does it feel to represent Denmark in Manhunt International 2012?
I’m very proud to represent Denmark at this spectacular event! It’s a great opportunity for me to show the rest of the world what Denmark has to offer. Even though Denmark is a small country I still believe that I can be a valid contestant in this competition, and that I will show the positive Danish attitude we are known for. I will represent Denmark in the best manner I can.
What three adjectives would your friends use to describe you?
1. Open-minded
2. Hard worker
3. Creative
You speak fluent Chinese after having lived in China. What aspects of Chinese culture did you like best?
What I really enjoyed about the Chinese culture was their way of being very fond of success. They respect hard work, and if you work hard, success will come your way. They don’t stop until they are number 1, and that’s why I think China is becoming such a dominant financial competitor on the global market.
They also look up to, and respect the seniors, which is very inspiring.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love being active! Physical activities such as riding my skateboard and playing basketball is something I often do in the summertime. I also enjoy carpentry. My family has a farm in the countryside where I help my dad renovate the barn and the main house.
When I don’t do physical work I hang out with my friends and we do all kinds of fun stuff. Traveling is also one of my favorite things to do. I love to see the world, explore new countries and cultures, and meet new people.
Knowing what goes on in the world is important to me, so I keep myself updated by reading the newspaper and watch the news on TV every day. By doing so, I get a better understanding of what problems the world is facing and it gives me a bigger perspective of the world, which I believe is important.
What do you say to critics who think that male beauty pageants emasculate men and make them softer?
They often don’t know much about what they’re criticizing, which just gives them a poor standpoint. But you just have to be tolerant and explain to them what it actually is about. Tell them that it’s about representing your country to the rest of the world, and showing your personality while bringing out the best in you. Once you explain that to them, they usually have a more positive perspective on male beauty pageants.
Which person or persons do you admire and why?
I would have to say one of my teachers I had in high school. He has this ability to always make me understand things from different perspective. It didn’t matter what topic he was teaching us at the time, he always made it sound interesting and compelling. It was an hour of pure inspiration every time I had his class.
I still remember he once told me: “When something can’t be done, do it, because if you don’t do it, it doesn’t exist.” I still apply the phrase whenever I’m stuck with a problem. It gets me motivated to solve it.
Do you believe in God or the afterlife? Why or why not?
I believe that there is something bigger than us that we cannot comprehend or understand. I have no idea what is awaiting me, but when I die I think that all my questions about life will be answered. And I would love to believe that when I die some part of me would live again.
What is your position on same-sex marriage?
Everyone is different. Therefore, people will always have different opinions about whom they love and wish to be with. I don’t think that anyone should control that.
What is the worst problem currently facing Denmark and what do you propose to resolve it?
Well, the economy has been slowing Denmark’s production down over the last 3-4 years, but that pretty much goes for most of the countries in the world because of the financial crisis in the global economy.
Pollution and global warming are problems all countries are dealing with as well. However, the problem that Denmark in particular is facing is the amount of people going to retirement compared to the amount coming to the workforce. We have a lack of young people in the workforce, which means that production in Denmark will slow down even more because there are simply not enough people to fulfill all the job positions.
However, I believe that this can be solved with technology and innovation. Examples such as rather complicated jobs will be done by a computer in the near future will bring down the high demand for people in the workforce.
How are you preparing yourself for Manhunt International 2012?
I just try and prepare the best way I possibly can by finding the right wardrobe, researching as much as I can about the competition, get my friends and family involved in supporting Manhunt International, making my portfolio stronger before the competition. I’m making this competition my TOP priority right now! In other words, I’m doing everything I can to be prepared very well for the pageant together with my national sirector Lisa Lents, so I can go as far as possible and become the first winner from Denmark at Manhunt International 2012.
Why do you want to become Manhunt International 2012?
To become Manhunt International 2012 would mean that I would have the chance to show everybody that the goals they strive for can be achieved and encourage people to believe in their dreams and follow them. I would have the opportunity to help and reach out to a lot more people in need. The satisfaction of giving to others who deserve it is so fulfilling that it would mean everything to me if I could do that by becoming Manhunt International 2012.
How do you see yourself five years from now?
I’m very determined that I have accomplished certain goals at that point in my life. I’m not sure what kind of job I will have, but I know it has to involve helping out other people achieve their goals. And hopefully be able to give back to as many people as possible, especially those who have helped me through out my life. Having graduated business school I would like to work in international settings, and maybe even work abroad. But for the moment I want to keep as many options as possible open, because there is so much more in life I want to explore. I really enjoy modeling and would love to explore more about the modeling world.
