  Sheynnis Palacios , a 23-year-old communications graduate representing Nicaragua, has been crowned Miss Universe 2023 at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador on November 18. Sheynnis becomes the first woman from Nicaragua to win the coveted title. It is also Nicaragua’s first ever major crown. Anntonia Porsild, 27, of Thailand, whom many pageant pages had selected as the winner, placed first runner-up instead. If she had won, she would have been the first woman to have won two Grand Slam pageants (she won Miss Supranational 2019). Moraya Wilson, 22, of Australia was second runner-up. The other two finalists were Karla Guilfú of Puerto Rico, 25, and Camila Avella of Colombia, 28, who made history by becoming the first married mother to compete in Miss Universe since 1956.   A 2022 Miss Universe judge is revealing why the organizer behind the event has filed for bankruptcy just days before the next main event.
